Abstract

This article deals with the relationship between the Technical School of the Federal
University of Paraná (ET-UFPR) and Decree n.º 2.208/1997, which caused the disintegration
between secondary education and professional education, which occurred in 1998. The aim is,
through historical research, to highlight the historical structural duality of Brazilian education by
designating a propaedeutic teaching modality to those who would continue with university
studies (General Education) as opposed to offering technical courses subsequent to high
school, aimed exclusively at the working class within the scope of ET-UFPR. Even with the
decree bringing the mandatory dismantling of regular and professional education, ET-UFPR
resisted the order of the federal government and maintained the offer of integrated courses such
as: Nursing, with classes in both daytime periods; Data Processing and Accounting, in the afternoon; and the Dental Attendant Technician course, in the morning. ET-UFPR ended the
1990s offering General Education, in addition to 21 technical courses, including integrated,
concurrent and subsequent ones, in addition to a higher education course in Information
Technology, created in 2000.
