Abstract

This article is part of the line of research in Professional and Technological Education (EPT) and addresses the historical and pedagogical foundations of Professional and Technological Education in Brazil, arranged in a historical evolution which provides opportunities for reflection on the transformations of the teaching-learning processes that began in the dual education system and assigned to schools and social classes, with emphasis on polytechnics and the integrated curriculum, fundamental in omnilateral human formation. In the methodological framework, a qualitative, bibliographical and documental approach was used, bringing authors such as Ciavatta (2005, 2014), Cunha (2005), Del Roio (2006), Frigotto (2009), Gramsci (2001), Kuenzer (2006), Marx and Engels (2001), Nosella (2013), Pacheco (2015), Ramos (2005, 2007, 2014), Saviani (1989, 2007), whose extensive knowledge allowed to outline the historical trajectory of professional education and the concept of politeness. The data collected in research showed that professional education still retains its inherent characteristics and has a special role in the areas of work and employment, as well as science and technology.
