Abstract

Brazilian professional education has historically been a space of contradictions in the face of class struggles that have existed since the beginning of its trajectory. This article’s goal is to discourse on the path of the State Center of Professional Education of Curitiba, indicating the laws and decrees that support the changes that have occurred from 1941 until the present time, to contribute to the theoretical and empirical discussions related to the theme. The methodology was developed with a literature review and document analysis. Which was developed in two parts; the first one is directed to research, theses, dissertations and articles on the history of the institution. The second one in documents and legislations related to the creation and structure of CEEP, and to the at the same time, from the history of professional education in Brazil. In this manner, it establishes a dialogue with the reader, pointing out the struggles and challenges that this Center has always faced since its creation until today. The results show that the institution continued to offer technical courses based on the wishes of professionals and the community who understood that the institution was in fact important and that it contributed to the development of the region.
