Abstract

This article aims to reflect on teacher training for Professional and Technological Education (PTE) in Brazil. Investigating the need for political teacher training at PTE, which helps in understanding the types of attacks by the civil-military dictatorship against teachers critical of the regime, methodologically, we opted for a qualitative approach, based on the method of historical-dialectic materialism, combined with an exploratory analysis. Through a narrative bibliographical review on teacher training in PTE, we also sought to identify debates on political training for teachers. Regarding the structure of this article, the conceptual path can be described as follows: history of teacher training at PTE in Brazil; authors who point out the need for political training for teachers in PTE; discussion about the current political formation aimed at understanding the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship, more specifically, regarding the repression of teachers; final considerations and suggestions. This study concluded that PTE still lacks ongoing public training policies for its teachers. Furthermore, it is also necessary to include content that makes teachers capable of understanding the attacks that take place in authoritarian periods, such as those of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship, on the rights of teaching and learning, aiming to strengthen and defend the democratic foundations of PTE in Brazil.
